Newspapers-Straits Echo-1905 to 1909
Description
This National Library Board dataset indexes digitised newspaper articles from the Straits Echo published between 1905 and 1909, part of NLB's programme to open up newspapers more than 70 years old. Each record identifies the newspaper title, issue id and issue date, edition, page id and page number, article id and article title, the first fifty words of the article text, and the contributing institution. The first-fifty-words field makes the collection searchable by keyword without opening every scan, which is helpful for locating coverage of a particular person, place or event. Historians, genealogists, students and digital humanities researchers use it to trace early twentieth-century news coverage and to build text-mining corpora.
Official description
This dataset is a list of digitised newspaper articles published 70 years ago or longer from the National Library, Singapore. These materials present a valuable resource on Singapore’s history, art and culture, digitised as part of an endeavour to preserve and provide better access to resources located within the library to enable users to explore and discover these resources.
