Resident Population Aged 65 Years and Over in Resident Households by Living Arrangements, Ethnic Group and Sex (General Household Survey 2005)

Description

This Singapore open-data dataset examines residents aged 65 and over who lived in resident households during the 2005 General Household Survey. The records are organized across three key demographic dimensions: living arrangements, ethnic group and sex, providing a structured basis for studying how older residents lived within Singapore households and how these patterns varied among population groups. The metadata supports a Singapore-wide context and a 2005 survey-period view; it does not indicate a subnational geographic breakdown. Living-arrangement categories reflect whether a spouse and/or children were present in the same household, including children-in-law, and also account for the children’s labour force status. Researchers should note that elderly residents who had been overseas for six months or more are excluded. The dataset is relevant to research on ageing in Singapore, household composition, family support, intergenerational living, ethnic and gender differences among older residents, and historical social-policy analysis. Typical search and research intents include finding 2005 Singapore elderly living-arrangement statistics, comparing older residents by ethnic group or sex, examining household-based ageing indicators, and locating official SingStat data for demographic or social research. The dataset was updated in June 2026 to refine the identification of children-in-law, while its stated update frequency is 10 years.
