Resident Population Aged 65 Years and Over in Resident Households by Living Arrangements, Marital Status and Sex (General Household Survey 2005)
Description
This dataset presents the resident population aged 65 years and over living in resident households in Singapore, classified by living arrangements, marital status and sex. It is based on the General Household Survey 2005 and is intended to support analysis of the demographic and household circumstances of older residents during that survey period. The dataset’s breakdowns allow researchers to examine how older people’s household living arrangements vary by whether they have a spouse and/or children, including children-in-law, alongside marital-status and sex categories. The living-arrangement classifications also incorporate the labour-force status of children, providing additional context for studying family support structures and the household circumstances of Singapore’s elderly population. Coverage excludes elderly persons who had been overseas for six months or more. The data were adapted from SingStat table CT/8999 and were last updated on 09/07/2026; the stated update frequency is 10 years. Potential uses include research on ageing, family and household composition, elderly living arrangements, social policy, population structure, gender differences among older residents, and historical comparisons using Singapore census or household-survey data. Relevant search intents include Singapore elderly population living arrangements in 2005, residents aged 65 and over by marital status and sex, older persons living with spouses or children, and General Household Survey 2005 ageing statistics.
