Remand Population
Description
This Singapore Prison Service dataset records the remand population in Singapore, counted as at 31 December of each year from 2007 to 2025. Remand refers to persons held in custody while their cases are still before the courts, so the figures capture people who have not been convicted and sentenced rather than the sentenced inmate population. The structure is deliberately simple, with one row per year and a single count column, which makes it easy to chart directly or to join to wider criminal justice statistics. Criminologists, policy researchers and journalists use it to follow pre-trial detention levels and pressure on Singapore's prison capacity over time.
