Description

Annual incidence of retrenchment in Singapore—retrenched workers per thousand employees—by industry and occupation, published by the Ministry of Manpower. The Labour Market Survey series normalises redundancy counts for workforce size, helping analysts compare restructuring intensity across sectors and job roles from 1998 onward. Private-sector coverage before 2006 and inclusion of the public sector thereafter follow MOM’s standard retrenchment definitions for permanent and term-contract staff.

Official description

Retrenchment refers to the termination of permanent employees due to redundancy and early termination of term contract employees due to redundancy. Incidence of retrenchment refers to the number of retrenched employees per one thousand employees. Source: Labour Market Survey, Manpower Research & Statistics Department, MOM Before 2006, data pertain to private sector establishments (each with at least 25 employees). From 2006 onwards, it also includes the public sector.
